Carbon credits: get paid for charging at home
Under the federal Clean Fuel Regulations, fuel producers must cut the carbon intensity of gasoline and diesel or buy compliance credits. Every kWh used to charge an electric car replaces gasoline — and Québec's hydroelectricity makes those credits especially valuable.
1. A connected charger
A Wi-Fi smart charger (like the Flo Home X3 or X6) measures exactly how much energy goes into your car.
2. Registration with an aggregator
An aggregator collects the charging data and turns it into compliance credits recognized by Environment Canada.
3. You receive a payment
The credits are sold to fuel suppliers, and a share of the amount is paid back to the charger owner.
The amount depends on how much you charge, the credit market price and the aggregator's share — it is not a fixed rebate. Carbon credits stack with the $600 Écorecharge rebate. Businesses and multi-unit buildings that host charging stations can also register as a “charging site host”.
